Abstract Earth Tones Painting

These images were experimental projects resulting from left-over paint materials of another piece. I never like wasting anything, so I dug into the paints with my hands--literally--finished the paints and created these abstract pieces. The scratch-like marks were done with fingernails :)

Artwork: Flight of the Cranes (Print Sales Donated to the Red Cross)

Flight of the Cranes

Flight of the Cranes is a mixed media illustration inspired by the classic Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock prints of Hokusai and Hiroshige. This artwork is also my artistic response to the those affected and lost in the recent earthquake/tsunami in Japan.

The fine art print is available on my Etsy store, under the new Charity section, with 50% of sales donated to the Red Cross.

Twin Dragons

Teaming up with Etsy groups (Artist Aid and Etsians for Disaster Relief), I've set up a special Charity section on my Etsy store dedicated to causes I'm passionate about.

Right now, the most urgent cause is the disaster in Japan. Percentage of all items sold (50% of artwork and 100% of jewelry) in this section will be donated to the Red Cross to help in the relief effort.

Lucky Spades, Cartoon Girl

Lucky Spades Shirt

"Lucky Spades" is a light-hearted rendition of Lady Luck, with touches of shamrocks and St. Patrick's Day. The creative process of producing cartoon style artwork is very uplifting, a stark contrast from the mental mindset necessary to produce the darker, gothic surrealist pieces. Like all my artwork, this was originally sketched in pen on paper. It was later redrawn in Adobe Illustrator and is available as a shirt.

Whirlwind of Negativity

Inspired by old social/political ink drawings, this emotional piece is about being swept away by external forces (incidents, people, etc) and the negative emotions that come with it: fear, ignorance, hate, jealousy and insecurity.

The piece was created with pen and scanned into the computer. Text was created on a path in Illustrator and subtle coloring/texture was added in Photoshop.

Japan Tragedy: How to Help

With an 8.9 earthquake and tsunami, Japan's residents are left distraught. I have a few friends there and they are safe, but others aren't so fortunate. Thousands have little food, water and power. Every little bit helps:

Red Cross: People can also text REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation to help those affected by the earthquake in Japan and tsunami throughout the Pacific.

Mercy Corps: Provides community support at the ground level. More info on the Emergency Page
