Vangobot Shaire Productions

Vangobot is a super cool robot which paints artwork (yes, with a brush) in different artistic styles. The image above is a rendering of one of my urban photo textures by Vangobot.

Here is an ABC News story on the project:

RIP, Tony Perez, Master Stencil Artist

. Posted by Sherrie Thai by Shaireproductions.com

JCash

A wonderfully talented art buddy of mine, Tony Perez passed away yesterday due to a heart attack. His multi-layered art portraits were amazingly detailed and colorful works never failed to inspire. Tony's passing was sudden and while his art will live on, his encouraging and sweet demeanor will be missed.

Here is a quote from his Flickr bio: "Everyone's art is a reflection on their own personal experiences in life, the small things in life that seem to stand out as we make the journey. The way we view our surroundings and the times we live in. With such a mish mush of culture and commercialism it is easy to look to the past but always keeping an eye and your feet planted in the present."

Inspiration: Art is. . .

Art Inscription

Posted by Sherrie Thai of Shaire Productions.

"Art is born of human ingenuity and imagination. The beauty of art is a universally appreciated value which transcends humanity, religion, language and cultural boundaries. Art may not be easy to understand, but as we view and ponder its expression, it energizes and inspires us, magnifying our vision and enriching our lives." (Found inscription at the Asian Art Museum building, SF)

Shige's paintings and tattoo art are phenomenal in technique, color and style. The shading is precise, while the subtletly of layers add to the realistic effect of his masterpieces. Check out more about Shige here

Inspiration: Rwanda Path to Peace Basket Collection

Rwanda Woman Weaving a Basket

Posted by Sherrie Thai of Shaire Productions.

As Christmas is coming, why not shop for good? The Rwanda Path to Peace Collection is available at Macy's and several other small community centers.

After the 1994 genocide, Rwandan women found themselves with the task of rebuilding their lives and their country, as nearly 1 million of their countrymen were killed. The baskets offer nearly 4,000 female artisans the chance to attain a sustainable income through the project. The baskets run from $25 to $80. In its fifth year, the project is still growing. Inspiration: Dr. Woohoo's "In the Mod" Color Extractor

Dr. Woohoo's Color Extractor

In the Mod is a nifty tool by Dr. Woohoo which extracts colors from images into usable palettes for Photoshop and/or Illustrator. Dr. Woohoo is a very engaging artist who uses algorithms to produce amazing digital art. You could see his creations on Flickr.

Inspiration: Chaz Bojorquez

Chaz Skull

The artwork of Chaz Bojorquez is an inspiring combination of graffiti and traditional cultural styles. While being an exceptional painter, I mostly admire his unique street calligraphy. It is a summary of institutional and self-taught influences--Chicano, Chinese, Egyptian, and Mayan. You could view his bio on RTEA and the Chicano Collection Site.

Inspiring Commercials & Animation

Like the Superbowl, the commercials that run during the Olympics are just as entertaining--with great storytelling and artistic elements. Here are two of my favorites. . .

United Airlines Commercial "Sea Orchestra" by The Black Heart Gang. Wonderful animation. . .

Two b-ball giants: Yao Ming vs. LeBron James in a Coke ad. Fun visual iconography from both American and Chinese cultures without being overly stereotypical and offensive.
