Dragon Art

Dragon: Drawing

I created this dragon to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year--yes, the zodiac Year of the Dragon! As always, a traditional hand-drawn piece was rendered, scanned and cleaned up in Photoshop. The coloring was then digitally applied. I opted for a muted color tone rather than the traditional red and gold palette, modernizing it a bit more.

Old Mechanical Dragon

Old Mechanical Dragon: Initial Drawing

"Old Mechanical Dragon" is another mixed media piece that had its start as an ink drawing and now lives as a photoshop-textured creation. Dragons are a favorite subject of mine, and they're always an adventure to produce. I wanted to explore rusty surfaces and took some artistic licenses to my winged creature. The background is a grungy photo texture from one of my many walks around SF.

Inspiration: Ed Hardy and Christian Audigier

Ed Hardy

If you happen to hit the malls this season, you can't miss the stylings of the now-infamous tattooist Don Ed Hardy and fashion designer Christian Audigier (formerly of Von Dutch and Affliction Clothing). I admire their artistic talents and marketing genius. Tattoo artwork has become part of mainstream culture in recent years and the partnership of Ed and Christian has elevated the style to star status. The products range from clothing to shoes, perfume, bags, jewelry, and other accessories.

Ed Hardy Dragon Scroll

One of the most impressive displays of Ed Hardy's talent was at the San Francisco Yerba Buena Center in 2002--a 500 foot long dragon scroll painting--it was beautiful seeing it in person as it became a sensory experience, wrapping around itself like a dragon's body.

Artwork: Dragon O Illustration

Sherrie Thai: Dragon O Illustration

This dragon was originally created in pen/ink and vectorized on the computer. I'll eventually create another design with this circular shape for a tee design, but for now, enjoy it digitally. =0)

Artwork: Blue Dragons

Blue Detailed Dragon on Waves

I created this Eastern style dragon over the weekend. My goal is to produce one new illustration a week.

I'm also working on an apparel line. At the moment, it's only in concept until the subject matter and designs are finalized and consolidated. I love experimenting in different techniques and styles, which explains the eclectic nature of my art portfolio. Stay tuned!

Artwork: Dual Dragons

I actually created this dragon design a couple years ago for a 18x24 glass etching--to be placed in a gallery. It was a good 100 hours of work. Unfortunately, the glass etching was accidently destroyed by another's hand. I was glad to have saved the original design, and thought it was time to give the dragons a new life.

This tribal style artwork was created by hand, then scanned, and digitally colored. The top dragon is created in an Eastern/Asian form, while the bottom dragon is done in a Western style. The inspiration of this piece was personal--growing up Chinese-American and being privy to the two cultures. It's a duality, but never as one.
