Artwork: Black Dragon

Black Dragon

This is the first time I incorporated coffee and tea in my artwork. Since I'm not a coffee drinker, the small coffee grinds in the kitchen were finally of use. Also, I found that Darjeeling tea had a darker color over Lipton.

After a few washes, diluted sumi ink was splattered by tapping on the paintbrush. The dragon was then applied with several pens on the very forgiving clayboard. Overall, the creative process was very fun and satisfying.

Artwork: Whirlwind of Negativity

Whirlwind of Negativity

Inspired by old social/political ink drawings, this emotional piece is about being swept away by external forces (incidents, people, etc) and the negative emotions that come with it: fear, ignorance, hate, jealousy and insecurity.

The piece was created with pen and scanned into the computer. Text was created on a path in Illustrator and subtle coloring/texture was added in Photoshop.

Artwork: The Snake Charmer

The Snake Charmer

Posted by Sherrie Thai of Shaire Productions.

The Snake Charmer is pen and digital piece that is part of the "Tomato de Arbol" #4 zine (Argentina), focusing on Fables. I was influenced by the story of the Pied Piper, luring snakes instead of people.

Artwork: Face Patterns

Face Patterns

I created Face Patterns as a background for another piece, but I think it's rather interesting on its own. This was created in pen/ink on bristol, then scanned and digitally colored.

Artwork: Chinese Mountains

Turtle on Vinyl Records

Chinese Mountains is another exploration of style. It was created with a few different pens. The mixing of organic and geometric lines elude to a modernization of the chinese culture--traditional landscapes and modern skyscrapers.

Weapon of Choice

This is by far my favorite pen and of course, weapon of choice for all the microscopic sketches and concept designs. View larger image here.

Artwork: Cranes and Myspace Page

Cranes

Cranes is a slight experimentation into various patterns and textures with a single medium--pen--in a detailed tribal style. View Larger.

I finally got around to creating a Myspace page for Shaire Productions here. With all tasks, there's always room for improvement, but it's a start. =0)

Artwork: Angel Mandala

Angel Mandala

I've been trying to combine realistic elements with decorative pieces. Although I love black and white imagery, subtle coloration could bring out the content a bit more. Angel Mandala was influenced by the styles of Art & Crafts and Art Nouveau. View Larger.

Artwork: A Christmas Carol

A Christmas Carol

I've always thought Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" was a beautiful tale of regret and redemption. The inspiration was the ominous Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come and Dore's dramatic etchings. This was created by pen/ink, then digitally colored in Photoshop. View Larger.

Artwork: Winter and Dragons

Holly Reindeer

As it's now December, Christmas will soon be upon us. I created Holly Reindeer to celebrate the occasion.

Mountain & Trees

Inspired by the prints of Hiroshige, Mountain & Trees is a wintery illustration that would work well as an e-card. This was created with a few different brush and fine-tip pens. I've been exploring minimal color as an accent, not a crutch for the line-work.

Dragon Circle

Dragon Circle is an apparel design soon to be on Zazzle. This was another pen/ink drawing converted in Adobe Illustrator.

Artwork: Gasmask over Nature

Gasmask over Nature

I've been interested in masks for a while. Gasmasks in particular always seemed very ominous to me with it's alien-like features and the tubular apparatus. This image was inspired by all the talk of global conservation and global warming (formerly known as the "greehouse effect"). Mixed-media artwork: pen/ink illustration with vector art.
