Mischievous Darlings

Mischievous Darlings: Initial Drawing

"Mischievous Darlings" is a macabre gothic vision inspired by the horror genre. The cuteness of the monsterlings adds a bit of humor and sarcasm to the piece. Sweet dreams my pretties!

Steampunk Transitions

"Steampunk Transitions" is a result of my fascination with the steampunk style. There is a nod to mysticism with the incorporation of feathers, which function as a shamanic headdress. The piece was created with graphite and photoshop coloring.

Mountains

This drawing was inspired by the watercolor landscapes of Asian masters. Majority of the artwork was created with a brush pen (Faber Castell, Shades of Grey). The sky was done with graphite as I wanted a subtler, toned-down effect.

Artwork: The Snake Charmer

The Snake Charmer

Posted by Sherrie Thai of Shaire Productions.

The Snake Charmer is pen and digital piece that is part of the "Tomato de Arbol" #4 zine (Argentina), focusing on Fables. I was influenced by the story of the Pied Piper, luring snakes instead of people.

Artwork: Scarabs and Their Eyeballs

Scarabs

Posted by Sherrie Thai of Shaire Productions.

This piece was inspired by the King Tut Art Exhibition at the De Young Museum in San Francisco. I've always been fascinated by the incorporation of the dung beetle into the Egyptian mythology as a Scarab, a creature associated with the god Khepri, who pushed the sun through the Egyptian underworld. In my version, I replaced suns with eyeballs, as eyes are the windows to the soul--our own suns. The beetles are created in a bio-mechanical style and the minimal colors elude to the Ancient Egyptian influence.

Artwork: Sketchbook Pages

Sketchbook: Mexico

My sketchbook is a personal art sanctuary: a place of meditation, simple wanderings, and exploration. This sketch was inspired by my trip to Mexico, complete with Aztec influences, mountainous terrain, and church steps.

Sketchbook Page

Here is a random page from the sketchbook. Creatures sometimes emerge from the patterns. Take a closer look.

Artwork: Winter and Dragons

Holly Reindeer

As it's now December, Christmas will soon be upon us. I created Holly Reindeer to celebrate the occasion.

Mountain & Trees

Inspired by the prints of Hiroshige, Mountain & Trees is a wintery illustration that would work well as an e-card. This was created with a few different brush and fine-tip pens. I've been exploring minimal color as an accent, not a crutch for the line-work.

Dragon Circle

Dragon Circle is an apparel design soon to be on Zazzle. This was another pen/ink drawing converted in Adobe Illustrator.

Artwork: Faces and Decor Sketches

SherrieThai Sketchbook: Faces & Decor

After work, I usually catch the train and start adding to my sketchbook. It's a solitary act and a form of meditation. I've been told that it looks pretty intense, so I may extend it to other mediums.
