Carnavale

Feathers

Posted by Sherrie Thai of Shaire Productions.

San Francisco's Carnavale Parade (May 24th) is a convergence of cultures, music, and dancing. The chilly 50 degree weather didn't put a damper on spirits. . .

Skeletal Piano: Initial Drawing

Posted by Sherrie Thai of Shaire Productions.

Skeletal Piano is a mixed media piece inspired by the biomechanical style of H.R. Giger and Beksinski. The initial drawing was created on vellum with graphite. It was then scanned and colored in Photoshop.

Resource: New Papers and Printing Techniques

Spectrum Lithograph Printing

Posted by Sherrie Thai of Shaire Productions.

As technologies change, so do the materials and techniques involved with printing. Spectrum Lithograph offers a Lithofoil printing, where foils are printed with the 4-color process, adding depth to most artworks.

For durable products, Polyart papers are the practical choice. A unique clay coating keeps the paper from tearing, yet is smooth enough for writing.

New Leaf Paper has nice recycled paper stocks that any environmentally-conscious designer can appreciate. They seem to be the leaders for recycled stocks since they don't bleach their materials and have experimented with non-wood papers.

Dragon Crest

Teefury Charity Tee Collab

Posted by Sherrie Thai of Shaire Productions.

My dragon crest design was part of a TeeFury.com charity tee collaboration with 44 other artists on May 8th. Wotto collaged and curated the project and a percentage of the proceeds was donated to "Team Eagle", a disabled parasailing team campaigning for the 2012 Olympics.

Origami Cranes

Posted by Sherrie Thai of Shaire Productions.

Origami Cranes is a vector t-shirt design of Japanese paper cranes and floral blossoms atop a tech pattern. It's a homage to tokyo-pop culture. See more of this shirt here

Artwork: Face Patterns

Face Patterns

I created Face Patterns as a background for another piece, but I think it's rather interesting on its own. This was created in pen/ink on bristol, then scanned and digitally colored.

Artwork: Sabertooth Lion Cub

Sabertooth Lion Illustration

Sabertooth Lion Sketch

Sabertooth Lion Cub is a mixed media project exploring the darker side of art. You can see the initial graphite drawing devoid of color and gradients. There's a distinct Giger influence, but I took some artistic licensing in the anatomy of the cub. He's a little vicious, but a cutey.

Artwork: Skull Mountain Sketch

Skull Mountain Sketch

Here's a sketch I did a while back called Skull Mountain. It was inspired by a few horror films and a microbiology book. Random creativity.

Tiki Shirt Review on TshirtAudit.com

Tiki Shirt

Tshirtaudit.com reviewed my Tiki Shirt on their site (March 14, 2009). I had a lot of fun creating this design and was pleased to discover that others find it just as entertaining. I think this deserves a "whooohooo" and a thank you to the jolly Tiki gods with flames a-blazin!

Artwork: Chinese Mountains

Turtle on Vinyl Records

Chinese Mountains is another exploration of style. It was created with a few different pens. The mixing of organic and geometric lines elude to a modernization of the chinese culture--traditional landscapes and modern skyscrapers.

Artwork: Bruce Lee Quotation Shirt

Bruce Lee Shirt

Bruce Lee was not only a great cultural icon and martial artist, but a great thinker as well. I wanted to bring attention to his inspirational Jeet Kun Do philosophy through this shirt design: "Learn, Master, Achieve". View larger.

Weapon of Choice

This is by far my favorite pen and of course, weapon of choice for all the microscopic sketches and concept designs. View larger image here.

Artwork: Valentine's Cupid

Valentines Cupid

Happy Valentine's Day, AKA Singles Awareness Day! I view it as a day of love and thoughtfulness, not necessarily about couples, so have fun!

This illustration was a creative refresh of a Cupid skin in Photoshop and Illustrator. View larger image here.

Artwork: Love-Inspired Shirts

One Love

Since Valentines is here, there's love in the air, so that was the theme to these designs. One Love is inspired by a phrase in Bob Marley's song, "One Love", but expanded to include the text "One Love, One Hope, One Voice." It's done in a grungy fashion, and incorporates my urban calligraphy. It's based on the inclusive attitude of the hip-hop and reggae musical communities. The shirts are available for men and women here.

Dying for Love

Dying for Love is a goofy visual pun. This design can also be found on Zazzle.

Love Monster

Inspired by the Cookie Monster and Valentines Day, the Love Monster eats hearts for breakfast. Indicative of the "Happy Insanity" t-shirt series, this design has a little bit of cynicism mixed with humor. He can be purchased here.

Inspiration: Scharffen Berger Design

Scharffen Berger Banner

Scharffen Berger is one of my FAV chocolates. It was unfortunate to hear the announcement that Hershey's, its parent company (since 2005), is closing down the original Berkeley plant. Even though times are tough, the design still shines. The site, packaging design, and food photography are all well done--simple elegance.

Artwork: Typographic Bird

Typographic Bird

Typographic Bird is a shirt design based on typographic explorations of serif letters. The swoosh and wingding elements created an interesting graphic form. This is also available at Zazzle, where the shirt colors could be customized.
