New Online Advertising/ Marketing: Widget as a Website
Posted by Sherrie Thai of Shaire Productions.
Skittles was one of the first brands who compressed their site into a widget format. It aggregated content from multiple sites: Flickr (photos), Youtube (videos), Friends (Facebook group) and others. It clearly shows the power of Web 2.0--increasing social interaction in an open-format manner.
Most recently, Zombieland (the new release of Sony Pictures) incorporated this new format for several items. I wonder what will be the next innovation. . .

Inspiration: Where the Wild Things Are Skateboards

Thought these products from Spike Jonze's The Girl Skateboard Company were a great tease for the new live-action version of "Where the Wild Things Are".

Inspiration: The Simpsons Marketing Campaign

The marketing team behind The Simpsons have been hard at work. Going into their 20th season (wow!), their fire is far from diminishing. From the success of the Kwik E-Mart/7-11 takeover and the partnership of Burger King last year for the movie launch, the famous yellow family are still at it again. . . Gentle Giants toy manufacturer has produced the Treehouse of Horror series, while Burger King is looking forward to another partnership. On The Simpsons' website, there's a partnership with Zazzle for seasonal products in honor of Dia de Los Muertos, cleverly titled, "D'oh of the Dead". Click here to check out The Simpsons' (awesomely-designed) site.

Inspiration: Wallace & Gromit, PhotoJojo, and BlueCanvas

The loveable characters of Wallace & Gromit lend their charm to the ads for lifestyle store, Harvey Nichols. Click here for more details.
If you're interested in learning more about digital photography or getting new project ideas, check out Photojojo.
I've also placed a few artwork pieces on an artist social networking site, Blue Canvas. The Flash player is pretty nifty--artwork becomes embedded into the module and viewable in a seamless way.

Advertising in the Clouds: Flogos

Once upon a time, plane banners and blimps were the mediums for advertising in the heavens. Today, it's Flogos! Made up of soap foam, this unique company produces logo brand shapes to reach a wide audience. The visual impact is quite appealing, being that we are always looking for shapes in the clouds. The life of a flogo is quite short though--from a few minutes to a few hours.

Inspiring Commercials & Animation
Like the Superbowl, the commercials that run during the Olympics are just as entertaining--with great storytelling and artistic elements. Here are two of my favorites. . .
United Airlines Commercial "Sea Orchestra" by The Black Heart Gang. Wonderful animation. . .
Two b-ball giants: Yao Ming vs. LeBron James in a Coke ad. Fun visual iconography from both American and Chinese cultures without being overly stereotypical and offensive.
