Artwork: Handmade Star Book, History of Tattooing

This handmade book was hand-sewn with five panels of three individual layers: calligraphy, printed die-cut papers and vintage tattooing illustrations. Though a time-consuming process, this one-of-a-kind piece was a rewarding challenge.

I'm very excited to have participated in Llewellyn Publishing's upcoming publication "2012 Witches Spell-a-Day Almanac". The most interesting part of this project was learning about the various symbolism and visuals prevalent in Wicca.

It's Valentines (or Singles Awareness Day)! Here's a fluffy bunny to (hopefully) add a smile to your day! It was first conceptualized with old-fashioned pen and paper, then scanned and redrawn in Adobe Illustrator. The design is available as a shirt on Zazzle.

Every Chinese New Year, small red envelopes are presented to the young and unmarried with a little bit of money. The color red symbolizes luck and the practice of giving a red envelope (or "Lycee" in Cantonese) is a blessing for the new year and to ward off evil spirits.
The designs vary from traditional imagery (Chinese characters, old paintings, plants, dragons, various animals) to modern cartoons. Metallic gold ink is normally incorporated into the print as a sign of prosperity.

These fun designs were created for the online game, Unicorn Parade, from San Franciscan company, Ohai. The concept for the teaser site background was inspired by the film "Where the Wild Things Are", where the color scheme and storm clouds have a slight melancholy atmosphere. The juxtaposition of sadness and happiness reflects the sarcasm of the game and characters. Keep your eyes peeled for the official game launch! :)
