Inspiration: Lotte Reiniger and The Adventures of Prince Achmed
. Posted by Sherrie Thai by Shaireproductions.com

Lotte Reiniger's beautiful silhouettes in "The Adventures of Prince Achmed" (Germany, 1926) is a historical treasure. Hailed as the first feature-length animated film, this silent masterpiece was created from highly-detailed cutouts. The story is adapted from Arabian Nights and plays out as an advanced shadow puppet show, though shot frame by frame with color tints. The film itself is a copy from a copy, as Lotte fled Germany to escape the Nazis, but you still see the brilliance of the artistry. The artwork is stunning and is reminiscent of Chinese paper cutouts and Tibetan puppets. You could view a couple clips from Youtube here and here.

Jose Guadalupe Posada (1852-1913) was an extraordinary Mexican printmaker known mainly for his calaveras (skull/skeleton) pieces. He created a wide range of subjects, making his artwork accessible to the masses through the print medium. Posada infused culture and politics into his works, influencing many others such as Diego Rivera.

Inspiration: Ghee Happy
. Posted by Sherrie Thai of ShaireProductions.com

Sanjay Patel is the artist behind Ghee Happy, a delightful brand that celebrates Indian mythology, icons and culture through vector illustrations and brilliant story books such as the The Little Book of Hindu Dieties and Ramayana. As a Pixar artist, his style has a narrative quality and exudes plenty of personality.

Inspiration: Lettercult and Fontstruct
Posted by Sherrie Thai of Shaire Productions.

Lettercult is an inspirational site for designers, typographers, and anyone interested in the construction of the letterform.

Fontshop is a free online font creator and editor from Fontshop. Although you can't create a more organic font style (just yet), it's a great design tool to explore.

Inspiration: Art is. . .
Posted by Sherrie Thai of Shaire Productions.
"Art is born of human ingenuity and imagination. The beauty of art is a universally appreciated value which transcends humanity, religion, language and cultural boundaries. Art may not be easy to understand, but as we view and ponder its expression, it energizes and inspires us, magnifying our vision and enriching our lives." (Found inscription at the Asian Art Museum building, SF)

Inspiration: Fantasy Photographer Hiroshi Nonami
Posted by Sherrie Thai of Shaire Productions.
Hiroshi Nonami is a surrealist photographer with a portfolio of breathtaking portraits. He doesn't use Photoshop, just plenty of old-fashioned darkroom techniques and hand-done experimentation.

Inspiration: Andrew Zuckerman Wildlife Photography
Posted by Sherrie Thai of Shaire Productions.
Andrew Zuckerman is an amazing photographer, but I especially enjoy his wildlife series. His new book Bird has such fantastic images, I initially thought they were 3D renderings as the action, lighting, and clarity of the images were so intense.

Inspiration: Rwanda Path to Peace Basket Collection
Posted by Sherrie Thai of Shaire Productions.
As Christmas is coming, why not shop for good? The Rwanda Path to Peace Collection is available at Macy's and several other small community centers.
After the 1994 genocide, Rwandan women found themselves with the task of rebuilding their lives and their country, as nearly 1 million of their countrymen were killed. The baskets offer nearly 4,000 female artisans the chance to attain a sustainable income through the project. The baskets run from $25 to $80. In its fifth year, the project is still growing. Check it out here

Inspiration: Success is. . .
Posted by Sherrie Thai of Shaire Productions.
Found this Installation Art at the Galleria in San Francisco. It's an inspiring display of various quotations on what success is. One of my favorites is Michelangelo's: "I hope that I may always desire more than I can accomplish."
